I question the assertion that DNS info must be updated when an IPv6 node
gets on a local Ethernet.
If you're at home, your DNS forward and reverse info will be correct.
If you're off visiting somewhere else, then it's not clear that you
always want to repoint the forward entry, and if you aren't making a
good forward entry then there's nothing to put into the reverse entry.
You may well be right that IF you want to make a reverse entry,
there's no good mechanism for it, but that's a separate issue than
"dynamic IPv6 address assignment will fail unless we solve this
critical issue".
(In fact, if a DNS server receives a dynamic update for a reverse
entry, and it can verify that the pointed-to forward entry matches,
and the source address of the reverse entry is the address being
updated, it could consider making the update. What can we do to improve
this model so it need not trust the source address of the update packet?)
