I have found this conversation very valuable.  It comes at the right time. 
It is also fun to follow it on two lists at once including loops :)

About this phone number thing.

I seem to recall an AT&T presentation that indicated that ATM multimedia
addresses would be very much like the current phone numbering system.

As much as I feel that the ATM people have a long way to go, perhaps those
more familiar with their schemes can comment on this and perhaps we can
learn something that will help us select an additional DNS naming
convention.


But in reality, I would NOT use my home number.  It will change in time.  In
fact I am 'moving' from the 313 area code to the new 810 area code this
August.

I kind of like Jon's idea thus of an arbitrary number.  It is almost like
the 800 number service of today.  Then the COM domain can become something
akin to the vanity 800 numbers.
