Re: Challenges for the BGP MIBv2 -- support for configuration objects
Hi Jeff,
I am about as far removed from working on the BGP MIB as one can
get and still make a plausible claim of interest -- nonetheless,
I would like to urge you and the WG to press for configuration
objects in the new MIB.
As we all know, SNMPv3 removes the obstacles to secure remote
configuration previously cited as the primary reason for not
deploying SNMP-enabled configuration applications (MIBs, agents,
and (less so) managers). The best way to advance deployment of
SNMPv3 and to extract even more value from the existing broad
investments in SNMP technology and tools to date is to develop
more capable MIBs and agents that do not require non-SNMP
management tools for configuration and control...and management
applications that take advantage of them.
IMHO,
